Day Surgery

Bridgton Hospital has an expanded ambulatory surgery, or day surgery, department.

General surgeons manage a broad spectrum of surgical conditions affecting almost any area of the body. They establish the diagnosis and provide preoperative, operative, and postoperative care to surgical patients. They are familiar with many congenital, infectious and metabolic problems, and are often care providers for those with cancer. The general surgeon uses a variety of diagnostic techniques, including endoscopy, for observing internal structures. A general surgeon must be familiar with the nature of other surgical specialties in order to know when to refer a patient to another specialist. The American Board of surgery certifies general surgeons.

Board-certified obstetrician/gynecologists, Drs. Ronald M. Cilley, Bruce Lastra, Deborah Surette and Deborah Eisenberg provide an array of gynecological surgery procedures on a day surgery basis. The expansion of the Bridgton Hospital outpatient clinics, has resulted in three specialty clinics that regularly utilize surgery. orthopedics, podiatry, and wound care clinics now provide 'Close to Home' care for patients who previously would have had to travel further for both their clinic services and surgery, if needed.

What truly makes surgical services 'shine' at Bridgton Hospital is the dedication of the staff to each other and their patients. Physicians, nurses and surgical technicians all communicate very well and collectively examine solutions or suggestions to make the day-to-day flow of surgery easier. The department is staffed with six registered nurses and three technicians totaling 169 years of perioperative experience.
